A document issued by an office of Australian government or a public institution of WA shall firstly be authenticated by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Western Australian State Office and finally be legalised by Chinese Consulate General in Perth. Documents executed in Australia for use in Hong Kong and Macao do not need to be legalized by the Consulate General. Instead, an Apostille from the DFAT Western Australian State Office is required. Consular legalization of a document merely attests the genuineness of the signature of the official and seal or stamp of DFAT WA State Office on the document, bearing no responsibilities fro its contents or lawfulness, etc. However, an application may be declined if the contents of the document concerned contravene laws or regulations of the People's Republic of China. What you shall do before lodging an application a. The document concerned shall firstly be notarized by an Australian Notary Public or Justice of Peace; b. Then it shall be authenticated by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Western Australian State Office; 2. How to lodge an application a. Duly complete and sign the application form. b. Produce the original document authenticated by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) WA State Office and its complete duplicate. c. Produce the original and photocopy of your ID with photo (e.g. your valid passport). 3. Lodge an application via a third person The representative shall produce his ID with photo (both original and photocopy) and a Power of Attorney by the applicant; for Non –Personal documents, the designated representative shall produce his ID and a letter of accreditation from the institution concerned. 4. To apply for authentication of documents in order to get married in China: The applicant shall have the authentication done by the DFAT WA State Office and Chinese Consulate-General in Perth within 3 months after the issuance of the Single Status Certificate. The Single Status Certificate will have a validity of 6 months after being authenticated by Chinese Consulate-General. The applicant is required to prepare the following documents before lodging the application with Chinese Consulate: a. One duly completed and signed application form. b. A Single Status Certificate obtained from WA Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages and authenticated by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) WA State Office and its duplicate. c. Produce the original and photocopy of your ID with photo (e.g. your valid passport). |
