Consul-General Dr.Huang Qinguo's Remarks at the Opening Ceremony of"Western Australia in My Eyes" Photography Exhibition-20th Anniversary of the Establishment of Chinese Consulate General in Perth
2014/09/25

The Honorable Dr. Mike Nahan, Minister for Multicultural Interests,

Distinguished Guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good Evening,

To start with, on behalf of Chinese Consulate General in Perth, I’d like to extend our warm welcome to friends from all sectors present at “Western Australia in My Eyes” Photography Exhibition.

Over the recent years, with the continuous enhancement and rapid development of China-Australia relations, the cultural and people-to-people exchanges have been increasingly closer. As the largest state in Australia, the magnificent landscape of Western Australia, its long and unique primitive civilization, and harmonious multi-culture society has attracted many Chinese to visit here. Many of them use their cameras to take brilliant snapshots of Western Australia, as perceived with their eyes, thus creating a pictorial impression of vibrant Western Australia.

The 50 photos on display at this exhibition have been carefully selected from some 300 competitive entries. They had been taken by employees of Chinese enterprises based in Western Australia, or by overseas students, visiting Professors to Western Australia and by Consular staff of the Chinese Consulate General in Perth. Amateur photographers , as they all are, have taken photos which give a broad and unique perspective, vividly and honestly reflecting the magnificence of the mountains and rivers of Western Australia, its splendid multicultural society and its customs, thus offering the viewers of the exhibition visual enjoyment and inspiration, showcasing the friendship between the two peoples. I believe that this photography exhibition not only offers us an opportunity to share the beautiful sceneries of Western Australia and the wonderful time we spent in Australia, but also make us feel the deep friendship of Chinese people towards Western Australians and the happy and close ties between the two countries through cultural exchanges.

2014 is an important year marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Chinese Consulate General in Perth. Over the past 20 years, long term progress has been achieved in the friendly cooperative relationship between China and Western Australia. Western Australia has become China’s major overseas supplier of energy and mining resources. Of the 800 million tons of iron ore China imports each year, 400 million tons come from Western Australia. In 2011, China Southern Airline opened Guangzhou-Perth direct flight, bringing China closer to Western Australia. Western Australia deserves to be the bridgehead and engine in the overall landscape of foreign economic and trade cooperation with China.

Ladies and Gentlemen, since the establishment of strategic partnership between China and Australia, the bilateral relations have been continuously enhanced and the area of cooperation has been further broadened. Let’s make concerted efforts to push forward Sino-Australian friendly exchanges and cooperation for the benefit of two peoples. In conclusion, I’d like to express our sincere gratitude to Australia China Business Council of Western Australia , China Chamber of Commerce in Australia Perth Branch and International Conference and Exhibition Center for their help and support in this exhibition. Thank you.
