Chinese Consul General Dr Huang Qinguo delivers a speech at the 66th Chinese National Day Reception

66 years ago, Chairman Mao Zedong announced solemnly the founding of the People's Republic of China. The Chinese people embarked on the great journey of achieving national rejuvenation , prosperity and people's happiness.

Over the past 66 years , under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese People have made relentless efforts to seek progress, creating a magnificent , earth-shattering history. The Chinese people have changed an old , poor and backward China into a prosperous socialist new China. We have made remarkable progress and have maintained a sustained, rapid and healthy economic growth . The country's overall national strength has been built up considerably, and China has become the world's second largest economy with unprecedented influence. The Chinese people, sufficiently fed and clothed, are leading a fairly comfortable life and are moving towards the goal of a moderately prosperous society . China's GDP has risen from about US$10billion when new China was founded to over US$10trillion now , the Per Capita GDP has increased from US$27 to more than US$7000.China has managed to complete, in just several decades, the journey of development which took many countries several centuries , and created the world-acclaimed "China miracle".

Over the past 66 years, China has unswervingly adhered to the five principles of peaceful coexistence and followed the road of peaceful development and made sustained efforts in developing friendly cooperation with all countries, and has won the appreciation and respect of the international community. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression as well as the World Anti-Fascist War. On September 3, the Chinese Government held grand commemoration activities in Beijing, and President Xi Jinping announced that China will cut the number of its troops by 300,000. This has once again demonstrated China's strong confidence and determination to take concrete actions to safeguard world peace and development.

At present, the Chinese economy has entered a state of new normal. The growth is shifting from high speed to medium-to-high speed .In the face of downward pressure, we vigorously pursued reforms and promoted innovation and accelerated structural adjustment . China achieved a 7% GDP growth in the first half of this year, the consumption accounted for over 60%of China's GDP and services sector already accounted for half of China's GDP and we contribute around 30 percent to world economic growth. The Chinese government has taken a series of measures, which have shown "initial effect" , positive factors in economic operation are increasing, and the fundamentals of the Chinese economy remain unchanged.China's reform is a process of continued opening-up and integration into the world. With the promotion of mass entrepreneurship and innovation and a new round of reform and opening up, China's development will create huge opportunities for other countries including Australia.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

China and Australia are important countries in the Asia Pacific Region and the two countries are highly complementary to each other in industrial structure and resources and they enjoy a long history of friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 43 years ago , the scale of bilateral trade has expanded more than 1500 times thanks to the strengthened cooperation in politics , economy and people to people exchanges. China has become Australia's biggest trading partner and major source of investment. Last year, President Xi Jinping paid a successful visit to Australia, the bilateral relations have been uplifted to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The recent-conclusion of Free Trade Agreement, the establishment of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and China's "One Belt One Road" Initiative will inject new energy to mutual cooperation in various fields.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As the western gateway to Australia and with a leading mining, agricultural and regional economy, Western Australia is the nearest Australian state to China as well as the only state sitting in the same time zone with China , and Western Australia has been a locomotive in engaging with Chinese economy. China was Western Australia's largest trading partner 10 years ago when Western Australia's iron ore exports to China was only 80 million tons , and it has reached 550 million tons last year. In 2014, Western Australia's exports to China was about AUD 63.5 billion, accounting for 70% of Australia's total exports to China. It's been two years since I came to Perth as Chinese Consul General and I have traveled from Pilbara, Kimberly in the north to Geraldton in Mid Western Region, from the Central Kalgoorlie mines to the Margaret River Vineyard and I have visited some companies and departments in mining, agriculture, tourism , science and technology , education and other sectors. I am deeply impressed by the enthusiasm for cooperation in all areas. The potential for our cooperation is huge and the prospect is promising.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

the number six is an auspicious symbol in Chinese culture , the new China's 66th birthday implies a lot of good luck and prosperity. Looking into the future, the Chinese people are confident to overcome all the difficulties and risks on their way forward and make greater progress for China. The Chinese Consulate General in Perth will as always work with Western Australian friends from all walks of life to vigorously push forward the concrete cooperation between China and WA and make new contributions to China-Australia relations.

In conclusion, I'd like to propose a toast

To the 66th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China

To the promising future of China- Australia relations

To the friendly cooperation between China and Western Australia

And to the good health and happiness of all the distinguished guests
